In January 2026, Paul Nabel was sworn in as the newest Chief of Police, succeeding Chief Matthew Hamlin who retired after 28 years of service with the Department. Chief Nabel was a graduate of Trotwood Madison High School and Miami Valley Career Technology Center in 2003 where he was valedictorian. He attended Sinclair Community College and graduated from the Sinclair Police Academy in 2005. Paul then started as patrol officer with Clayton Police Department in 2006, became an evidence technician, field training officer, firearms instructor, and Taser instructor. He was promoted to detective in 2009. In 2017, Paul was promoted to patrol sergeant and promoted again in 2022 to lieutenant. In the meantime, he attended Columbia Southern University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and graduated summa cum laude. Paul also graduated from Supervisor Training and Education Program, Police Executive Leadership College, and Certified Law Enforcement Executive. Further, he graduated from Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command. Paul is blessed to have the support from his wife, Britney, sons, Carson and Caleb, parents, Paul and Lisa, and brother, Ryan Nabel. As chief, Paul looks forward to continuing to partner with the community and professionally lead the officers and department.
